Những cây bonsai nói chung, cây Mai nói riêng không phải ngẫu nhiên mà được bộ rễ nổi hoàn hảo để ta bằng lòng. Đa số nhờ bàn tay khéo léo của con người tạo tác thêm, chúng mới trở nên duyên dáng. Tôi hy vọng bài viết này có thể giúp chút ít cho các bạn nắm bắt thêm phần kỹ thuật tạo rễ nổi cho cây kiểng.

Cách thực hiện

Vào thời điểm gần cuối Đông (tháng 11 âm lịch) đến hết mùa xuân năm sau, thời tiết tương đối êm ả, ngớt mưa dần, ít nắng gắt, dịu trời mát đất. Tôi thường làm công việc tạo rễ cây Mai, còn các tháng khác chưa bao giờ, bởi nhiệt độ quá nóng, hay quá lạnh hậu quả không lường hết được!

1. Chuẩn bị các thứ cần thiết

Dùng loại tre non, chẻ một số cọc bằng chiếc đũa con dài khoảng 10-20cm vót cạnh, cắt nhọn một đầu. Chẻ một số ghim bằng cỡ chân nhang dài 12cm vót cạnh, nhọn 2 đầu, xoắn ở giữa gập đôi lại. Chẻ một số lạc của lóng tre dài.
Vỏ trái dừa hoặc bèo(lục bình).

2.  Thực hiện “một công ba việc”

Vừa sang chậu, vừa thay đất và vừa sắp xếp lại bộ rễ đối với những cây Mai đã được 2-3 năm tuổi. Xem đất ở chậu của nó không quá ướt hay quá khô tức là còn độ ẩm thì dễ dàng hơn.
Bứng cây cẩn thận, tránh đứt rễ nhất là những rễ cái dài, càng có lợi thế, nhẹ tay đưa ra ngoài, xoi bớt đất chỉ còn một ít thôi, tay nắm thân nâng, tay kia đỡ lấy rễ, lật ngược cho ngọn quay xuống. Như vậy bao nhiêu rễ lớn bé cũng xuôi theo. Sau đó đem đặt thuận trở lại vào giữa chậu trên lớp đất trồng, đồng thời dùng cọc cắm và lạt giữ cây cố định.
Lấy nước xối vào gốc rồi chờ một lát, nước rút hết, rễ bày lộ rõ ra để cho ta sấp xếp lại. Banh những cái ngắn trải đều tại chỗ, những cái dài ở bên thừa để qua phía thiếu. Làm được rễ nào cắm cọc và ghim giữ cho nó nằm yên, khỏi bung về vị trí củ. -Dùng đất bột khô rải vào, rồi đổ nước đầy chậu một lần nữa, nước sẽ làm đất bột chui tới tận cùng hang hốc. Tiếp theo lấp gốc. Cuối cùng sử dụng rễ bèo hoặc xơ dừa xé nhỏ phủ mặt châu, đề phòng khi tưới đất trôi

3. Riêng với cây to chậu lớn

Nếu thấy bên nào bị thiếu rễ thì tưới nước nhiều lần hoặc đợi mưa đất mềm để dễ làm.
Moi đất chỗ bị trống rễ, rồi thò ngón tay trỏ xuống sâu dưới gốc thăm dò gặp rễ nào có khả năng rút được thì từ từ kéo lôi lên dần, khi thấy nó đã trồi hẳn thì lấp đất hố vừa moi. tiếp theo là banh sửa lại rễ và lấp đất.
Dùng nguyên mảnh vỏ dừa đem đập dập rồi úp tủ kín cái rễ ấy để bảo vệ cho nó được an toàn.

Nếu cảm thấy ngại lôi kéo sợ đứt rễ ta có thể làm theo cách sau vừa phụ thêm rễ cho cây chính vừa tạo ra cái u nần ở gốc.

Sử dụng cây phụ có thân tương ứng, bứng đem rửa hết đất và cắt tỉa nhánh cho gọn.
Moi đất ở gốc cây chính chỗ bị thiếu rễ, lấp đặt cây phụ vào, dùng lạt buộc hai thân chúng lại. Tiếp tục công việc sắp xếp rễ tương tự như trên.
Thời gian khoảng 3 tháng sau, cây phụ phát triển bình thường thì cắt bỏ toàn bộ phần trên, chỉ giữ lại một đoạn vừa đủ quấn vòng theo gốc chính.
Dùng 2 mảnh tre thật già 3-4cm, một mảnh đặt trực tiếp ngay đầu mối cây vừa cắt, mảnh thứ 2 đặt gián tiếp ở vị trí đối diện. Dùng dây kim loại choàng hai mảnh tre áp vào, buột 3-4 nuột, siết thật chặt bằng kiềm, để thật lâu.

Lưu ý: Lúc choàng 2 mảnh tre ép, nếu dây kim loại chạm sát vỏ thì chêm thêm một vài mảnh tre nữa tránh gây sẹo xấu !Mặt khác, về lâu dài những tược mọc bậy ở đoạn còn lại của cây phụ đừng cắt, cứ để dậy mà đè bẹp chúng sát mặt chậu, hoặc chỉ cắt bỏ đọt. Chừng nào biết chắc chắn hai cái thân ấy ăn khít với nhau thì bỏ các thứ bó buộc.
